High Interest Savings Account

Hey guys really need your help with this one, I'm looking for a high interest savings account the highest one possible.
Went my bank HSBC and they said they have an 8% but you can only take out your money once a year!
ING Direct have a 5% one too but they are an internet bank and I'm not too sure about internet banking....
Basically I'm looking for one with high interest and will allow you to take out your money whenever you like in case there is an emergency ( they will obviously penalise you but still)
Thanks guys

Have you started with Martin's Savings and Investments article? Link on the LH side of the page ... Your student status won't affect what's best ...Signature removed for peace of mind0

Try the Halifax WebSaver account - you get a reasonable 4.25% interest and a cashcard to access your money.
I would reccommend the Yorkshire Building Society Internet Saver account (5.15% interest and cashcard) but they've temporarily stopped accepting applications

As a general point, I suggest you get used to internet banking. So much more convenient than traditional banking; saves money and frustration on telephoning call centres; and most of the best banking products are on the 'net.0

Get yourself an mini cash ISA - you can put up to £3000 in a year but you get great rates and the benefit of no tax

also remember that if you're a student and not a uk tax payer, you can get gross interest rates (obviously ISA's are all tax free). the 8% ones usually require monthly regular deposits. i'd look into the internet banking options - often you can get higher interest rates with those and if you have your current account with the same bank, the money can be transferred immediately into your current account so that you can access it.:happyhear0

icici bank, from £1, you get 5.15% GROSS (as you're a student), unless you earn more than the tax allowance over the summer.
easy access and they don't penalise you by not giving you any interest if you take any money out during the month.0
