Can anyone tell me why my wireless has changed its name?
running household pc on modem, running kids lappys and partners lappy on wireless,
Partners lappy went tits up the other night, and he couldnt connect but my son could on his, Partner tried to reconnect himself, doesnt know what hes doing, doesnt know what he pressed, but his lappy asked him for the pin number from underneath the wireless router, as soon as he put it in his lappy sons went off, Now only he can get on wireless network, and our network has a picture of wireless router with a big red cross over it,and another with partners name sucking all the signal, Sons laptop will not connect to it.
Cant work out why it has changed its name at all.
Tried the reset button, nothing, tried turning modem off and on, tried turning modem off on house pc and connecting to wireless and it wont let me.....
Not brilliant at all this stuff but can usually sort it out to get online somehow!!
Any ideas anyone

Do I try that on my sons lappy or on main pc?
Sounds simple enough, even for me, thanks0 -
try on either; you might be better off deleting the SSID name from the router's login page; do not delete any other info!missstropy wrote: »Do I try that on my sons lappy or on main pc?

I have no idea what she's done, but this is the latest news (via mobile phone!)
She's a bit fed up, as this all started as a result of her OH meddling when he shouldn't have. I think she's inclined to give up, as this is a Virginmedia router/setup and she's ditching them at the end of the month, going with another provider instead, and she's presuming she'll have to change router & set up a new wireless network anyway.Just letting you know I re-installed wireless on the PC. Gave it a new name and new password. It now says on one machine "connected to (new network) signal strength excellent, acquiring IP address". But still nothing. On another wireless icon, it's saying the same but instead of acquiring, it's "authenticating network address". Clicked repair on both but it's not doing anything.
Just thought I'd update the thread!
ETA. She's given the kids a rota of time each on the main PC (connected by network cable), and her OH isn't scheduled any time at all :rotfl::heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

Try confirming the SSID (network name) using the PC connected via lan. Even change the SSID to something very different and also change the channel number. Then try and reconnect wirelessly.Apparently I'm 10 years old on MSE. Happy birthday to me...etc0
