Home phone number

Hi

If you do not have a land line but the box fr the application (MBNA) has a star, what should you do/put? Mobile?

Thank you

  • Sadly even though we are in the 21st century with mobile broadband largely as good as BT etc and skype and mobile phones for some reaon some lenders still put weight on you having a home phone line, cannot for the life of me understand why but some of them do, you could put your mobile number down and see what happens I am not to sure of MBNA's policies TBH.

A way around the problem is a geographical VOIP number, SKype do them for major cities or there is Soho66 that do them for literally every town in the land, from my experience even Ebay recognise these as actual landlines :) Cost with Skype if you are a subscriber is mmmmm I think about £5 for 3 months, cost with Soho66 is £2 per month.

    HTH and good luck :)

Heresay suggests that putting a mobile number on applications does not score as highly as a landline. Personally I don't believe it as the number gives little indication as to someones status when there are far more important factors considered on an application.

I haven't put a landline number on any application for 12-15 years, whether it be finance, banks, loans, mortgage, credit cards. I've had more cards than you care to mention (for stoozing), swapped mortgages, purchased on 0% finance and have never been refused any application whatsoever or not received what I consider to be a good/reasonable limit.

Take no notice of the landline requirement on an application, always put a mobile if you're not happy or if you just don't want to be disturbed on your home phone. I believe it's only asked for so that you can be contacted more easily in cases of financial problems.

You could always put your number, but have finger trouble with one or two digits or alternatively pluck some numbers from thin air ;)

I've used the "skype in" service for a while. Mainly because I spend long periods overseas and it's cheaper to use this than roam. (I have mobiles in different countries - when I don't receive the call on PC, it forwards to the mobile of the country I'm in.)

System isn't perfect (full discussion would be OT) - but I've never had a problem using this number with applications.
