I have an N reg fiesta
every so often when I'm driving and try to change gear it won't let me it
the gear stick will move from side to side but won't go ' in gear' its only seconds and then it goes into gear and I don't have problems again for a good few months if not longer
it happened today and took a little longer to sort out again only seconds not even minutes but I think maybe I start to panic and that makes it worse
any ideas what it could be
the car has driven perfectly since

Is it any gear or a specific gear you are having problems with?
Sounds like it may be the synchromesh.0 -
no just the gears in general
never heard of synchromesh
most importantly is it expensive ???0 -
It probably isn't that then as it's unlikely every gear would be affected.0

today I just couldn't change it to any gear , maybe me getting in a panic made it worse , drove home again fine though0

Sounds more like one of the gear linkages worn out somewhere.0

expensive ???0

Not really. If you're paying for it, an hours labour and maybe £30-£50 tops in parts.0

Very hard to say without seeing.
Our 106 had the same sort of problem, the gearstick eventually just stirred around in a circle, without doing much, it was a £10 linkage under the bonnet, and it took me half an hour to replace.0 -
