Dear Hen Len
I have not tried it with Halifax Clarity Card. Someone needs to try it, informs us his experience and we will learn it from there. I have read a lot of people in this forum are suggesting this method to avoid paying interest. Presumably they have tried it, I do not know. But from Lloyds TSB to Halifax account (not Halifax Credit Card) it is instant FP, have not actualy tried from Lloyds TSB to Halifax Clarity Card. We could easily experiment it by sending £1.00 and see how long will it take. Someone want to try it and tell us their experience ??
But I have tried it a few times with Santander Zero Card. I have tried it in real situation when I was abroad. Also I have tried it through experiment a few times by sending £1.00 from my HSBC to Santander Zero Credit Card a/c and could tell that it is less than 20 minute to arrive.

With the Halifax Clarity Card would this work:
Pay say £100 on HFX Credit Card so you are £100 in credit - before you go.
Take out the equivalent - or slightly under to be sure - say 110 euros.
Bobs your Aunties Husband!
:rotfl:I am NOT a mortgage & insurance adviser - or anything to do with finance, that was put on by the new system I dont know why?!0 -
This has been discussed many times. By doing this we allow our self in credit which is actually against their T&C.
Halifax say they might return it. The terrible thing might happen is that our credit card is getting blocked while we are abroad. It might be horrible experience if you do not prepare for it.
Those people who has back up credit card (in case it is getting blocked) need to keep trying and report their experience in this forum and we could learn it from there.

I do pretty much all my banking online, so they save on the cost of a stamp in sending me a statement every month.
Being overseas, I didn't see this coming - and carried on using my card as normal. !!
I really don't know how you didn't see it coming. When you log on to your account, the first screen you come to is sometimes 'important messages'. The change has been there several times - you can't have missed it.0 -
NW like most UK travel insurance policies is aimed at holidays from (and in) the UK. A bit nieve to think it would cover your situation.
You do not say what the £30+ charges are for?
If you "home" is Portugal, get a bank account there.
I don't expect travel insurance, but what I am saying is they don't have to provide it to me as I have given them an address outside the UK. I could have given them an address in the UK, and then they would have to have given it to me - regardless of my constant travel.
The charges are Non-UK transaction charges - the 1.00 GBP per transaction & the 2%. I spend very little time in Portugal, even though my post goes there would prefer to keep an account in the UK.
I am currently working in Armenia, although I get money sent back in GBP - its complicated, I know!! I have USD Accounts in other places, but having the Account with Nationwide for 15 years everything has always been so convenient.0 -

Sometimes I log in every day, sometimes once a month - maybe it was there but anyway I missed it!! Have seen loads of messages about having to use the Card Reader thing all the time, so most of the time ignore that page.0 -
I want to clarify: I understand that withdrawals using my Nationwdie Debit Card incur 1 GBP charge plus 2%, I don't use credit cards to get cash.
But what about transactions like in shops abroad? It appears that the 2% applies on a Debit Card - but what about my Nationwide Gold Credit Card? I have found conflicting answers on their website.0 -
The new charges are only for cash withdrawals abroad. You can still use the debit card and credit card for purchases without charges in Europe.0

2% + £1 applies to cash withdrawals
2% applies to purchases (1)
(1) - This fee also applies if you use your card to buy goods or services in a currency other than sterling on the internet or over the phone.0 -
Yeah that was what I thought - but what about Nationwide Credit Cards & in particular their Gold Card. Any change there? :money:0

Any change there?Third party foreign currency charges We pass on a charge of 1% of the transaction amount which is made by Visa for converting transactions made in foreign currencies outside the Visa Europe region. This charge will be included in the sterling amount which appears on your statement. For details of the countries affected please see nationwide.co.uk/foreigntransactions0
