I have pressed the eco button on our boiler - as it's called an Eco button it seemed a good idea!
Can someone explain what it does please?

well the green eco button on my worcester condensing combi boiler thing does this,i think!
when pressed so its illuminated the water in combi is heated on demand,so when i turn hot water tap on,i have to wait for the hot water to come thro.
when im not using the eco button, the water is pre heated in boiler b4 it leaves to come to tap, using more energy.
or at least thats my understanding of it!:)0 -

Aaah OK. So the central heating is as normal I guess but if I go and run the tap it'll take time for water to run through warm I guess?
Does anyone know if it is worth using? Does it make much difference to bills?0 -
dont know re bills, but i didnt find it actually made that much differene to how quickly the hot water came thro,i tend to rinse dishes with the luke warm stuff, then run bowl of hot,but im not on a water meter i can see that i probably waste a bit of water by doing this.0

Yes this is correct, when the Eco button is not on the boiler continually heats a small tank of water to reduce the time it takes for hot water to reach your tap.
I put my Worcester Bosch boiler to Eco about a year ago, and have just used the analysis of my bills on the Scottish power web site. This shows an almost identical seasonal pattern of use other than our gas consumption has been reduced consistently. Hth.0 -

Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. It would help if you told us the make and model of your boiler. Eco buttons work differently on different boilers, depending on the manufacturers interpretation of 'eco'0
