The Scottish National War Memorial, located inside Edinburgh Castle is free to enter. You just present yourself at the ticket office and tell them you wish to visit it. In theory they should get someone to escort you there and wait to escort you back. In practice they never do, they just let you go into the castle free.
The Trustees of the Scottish National War Memorial have read the paragraph on your web site concerning free admission to the Scottish National War Memorial. The wording given implies that this privilege may be abused and used as a means of gaining free admission to the Castle as a whole. The Scottish National War Memorial is the Nation’s Shrine. Those obtaining free admission are coming to pay their respects to those whose names are recorded in the Rolls of Honour. To use this as an excuse for free Castle admission is dishonest, disrespectful and causes genuine visitors, such as the families of recently killed servicemen and women uncalled for problems. It also makes it more difficult for the Trustees to sustain their position of free admission to the Memorial.
