How long do council have to respond to dispute?

Hi there
I received a parking ticket 4 weeks ago and sent a letter of dispute that same day. I had a letter confirming receipt ten days later but an email read receipt on the day I sent it. How long do the council have to send me a response, and at what time does it become no longer valid?
Thanks

I think they have several months to issue a Notice to Owner but I could be wrong. Do not follow it up at this stage, the ball is in their court now.
But, why send off an appeal without taking advice on a forum first though? Did you know that whatever you say in your appeal to the PCN the Council will refuse it in 99% of cases at that stage. It's a game of bluff to them, I'd be willing to bet they say no.
So, as and when you receive the rejection letter and then the Notice to Owner, don't hang about. Post pics of all your paperwork on pepipoo and they will almost certainly help you get off the PCN altogether. Most cases win if you follow advice and meet your deadlines. Post a new thread here after reading the FAQs and sticky threads and reading a few other threads to get the hang of what to post:

You can probably get off this - but it's not likely at this early stage. Read up on it on pepipoo and post a thread now, or when you get that rejection.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Was your PCN attached to the car or received by post ?0

OP - I presume you have informally appealed a PCN within the 14 day period allowed & are awaiting a reply.
Surprisingly enough there is no statutory time limit laid down for a Council to respond to an initial informal challenge/appeal.
There is 56 day statutory rule, but this relates to responding to a formal appeal following service of the 'Notice To Owner' (NTO).
Earlier this year two friends of mine waited 16 & 17 weeks respectively before receiving a reply from a certain Midlands city council.
You will receive a response......eventually............ of that I have no doubt.0
