Knacked Plug threads?...... Usually fixable with a Helicoil kit....
It needs to be able to withstand the pressures involved with engine combustion, and replacement of spark plugs again in future. I'm with Drone31.

The worst thing that I can think of that may have happened is that the ground electrode may have fallen off the plug. Unfortunately, it could cause a fair bit of damage inside the cylinder. It is possible that the piston, a valve, or valves, and even the cylinder wall may have been damaged.

If I had a 2008 model anything, and a garage bust the heads due to being too forceful with the spark plugs, there is no way I'd be satisfied letting them fix it with a Helicoil Kit, irrespective of how good a job they feel they could do with it.

Assuming the cylinder head is aluminium alloy, a properly done Helicoiled repair is stronger and more reliable than the original thread.

That said, I very much doubt that a crossed thread is the problem in this case.

So a knackered plug is worse if a back street garage do it rather than a main dealer?

    ^^

This is exactly why I wouldn't touch a main dealer.... Im betting this was the work of an unsupervised minimum waged apprentice at a main dealership.

If im wrong, then fair enough..... But every "under the arches" mechanic knows how not to cross-thread a spark plug!

I didn't go to the main dealer but took it to a reputable Well Known UK Organisation who I have used frequently in the past. Maybe in hindsight I should have taken it to ford!

They are calling me today once the diagnosis has been carried out - I am going to demand a courtesy car for my troubles. Also will demand a written report and assurance should any problems further down the line appear.

    Hopefully will get resolved.
    Thanks for all your posts

Do you think I should get them to test the power output of the engine once when whatever repair etc has been done! Or alternatively should I get this checked myself indepently once I have the car back. Any advice or how I go about doing this appreciated. Don't want to just take their word for it cause they might not diagnose all problems (if any)?
