Pleased but sorry to hear that CMD - you know what I mean! It's wonderful how everyone has come together though, restores your faith in humanity x
ETA - Blimey Lara, I only want to make one loaf of bread from scratch and you're doing it EVERY WEEK?! (Presumably when you get back from Kampala!)Weightloss: 14.5/65lb0 -
Such sad news about finding the fishermen CMD
At least the families can be a little more at peace now, but it still doesn't really make it any better. The community spirit there sounds amazing though.
Just popping on for a little help! Now it's a little warmer our garden is getting a little wild, and OH is on about planning what to do with the space, as it is quite a big garden. But I'm not really sure so thought maybe some of you might have some ideas! Snapped some pictures so you can get the general idea. These two are out back. 1, 2. And this one is of the little patch we've got out front. Basic thought is to pull all the weeds out, and just keep the grass cut. But that's kind of boring and blah though a good place to start so we know what we're working with. But any ideas about what we could do?0 -

Hehe Tete, probably a bit ambitious...! But I do work from home and if I baked my own bread I'd have a whole new world of yeast-based procrastination :rotfl:
CMD so sorry to hear that. Glad at least they know now, but it's really cold comfort.
Oooh Cinny you've got loads of room, can't wait to see what you get up to. I found some good resources on the 4homes website before.

We live in a flat so i'm a bit useless there too! Looks like a lovely garden though!0

Really sad news CMD, but like the others have said, it's good that they can be laid to rest, the not knowing must have been terrible for the families involved. It really does sound like a fantastic community though, you must be looking forward to moving there one day
I live in a flat too so I'm not really the oracle on all things garden either Cinny, although when I did live in a house with a garden I'd help out a bit (when it was nice weather anyway!) I'd get a bit of a decking area going over the concretey looking patch and make it a seating area (ooh, built in BBQ perhaps?) and maybe have a vegetable patch at the bottom? My friend just has a yard at the back of his house but he's got loads of planters all round with fruit and vegetables growing, it's fantastic. He just loves to show us his 'babies' and then feeds us homemade jam with his home grown fruit in!
Ooh and speaking of gardens, thanks for the lovely parcel of seeds Swinstie!I need to get some compost from my Mum's then I'll be planting some of them, I'm quite excited! Gave some of them to my SIL since I'd never use all of them (and some look like they get quite big, I haven't got room for 90cm tall plants!) and she loves to garden, she was planting them up yesterday and will be watching every day for them to sprout, she's so impatient she'll be expecting them to have flowers already!
I like your list Lara, your 'shamelessly nicked from...' notes made me laugh! Half of mine have been shamelessly nicked from people! I got an e-mail back from Mr Day Zero and it says that following users is one of the most requested functions and he's going to start working on it soon so that's nice to know!Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!Goal Weight 140lb Starting Weight: 160lb Current Weight 145lb0 -
That was nice of him to reply to you Birdie even if it was a really common request! What seeds did Swinstie send?
I'm garden clueless too Cinny, and can only keep cacti in the houseBut I think you should have sunflowers

Oooh there were all sorts. Little pretty flowers (pansies and busy lizzies), bigger flowery type things (no idea what they're all called!), trailing type yellow and blue flowers... lots of pretty things!
Ditto the sunflower request! They'll look lovely!Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!Goal Weight 140lb Starting Weight: 160lb Current Weight 145lb0 -
Oh yes, sunflowers! My Mum has a big tin full of seed packets so I'll have to root through and see if I can find any. I like the idea of decking too, maybe to cover the whole of the nappy concrete? But that's going to cost a pretty penny so will have to be 'in a couple Summers' plan. I think with just passing it everyday since we moved in, and not giving it much thought over Winter, whenever I look at it I've just got a little mental block! OH has got tomorrow off work, so I might drop a couple hints about him maybe getting stuck in with weeding. I wanted to do some yesterday but had a right do with a strange dog randomly making itself at home in my kitchen, then a 30 minute saga trying to capture and free an angry bumblebee ontop of the housework and Sunday roast. I did not want!0

:rotfl: at your mad animal day Cinny. Decking sounds lovely over the concrete. Does it cost a lot? I am clueless with DIY. Do you enjoy it, or your OH? One of my goals is to build a new garden fence and a little red gate as ours is this terrible wonky thing. Luckily OH has just taken on a former carpenter as an intern and he's going to do a day's carpentry with me. He's a diamond.
Well just finishing week 1 in Kampala. It has gone so quickly. I have reconnected with all my research participants and now am writing a mammoth 'to do' list for the next 7 weeks. I'm still such a research novice. One day at a time, eh?
Birdie, I hope MrZero makes that option soon. I think I'd be much more likely to stick at it if I had some 'buddies' and I think it would be cool to keep up with how each other is doing. Even though I nicked all those ones, I'm still only on 41!!
Have a good day!:A :heartpuls June 2014 / £2014 in 2014 / £735.97 / 36.5%0
