  • The frontline should kill off the fleas, so make sure he walks around alot and let him get on sofa and bed so the remaining ones jump on him and die :)

Ive found that hoovering carpets, then putting salt down and giving it a good brush into the carpet works.. leave the salt there for a few days/ a week, then hoover it all back up.. it the best solution for us; the flea sprays/ powders never work, yet the alt works quickly, apparently dehydrating them..
  • Sounds to me like you need a new vet!

Check online for discounts on flea products. I have a cat but he's kept indoors so I only have to treat him once a year. Good luck in your war!

My VET recommends and we've used RIP Flea spay for carpets, etc. This offers up to 12 months continuous effectiveness so hopefully any of the eggs, larvae, etc will be zapped even if currently dormant. See (http://www.genitrix.co.uk/2008ProductsFleas-RIPFleas.php)

Our VET charges £19.95 per 600 ml aerosol, but on line it can be got for around £12. The can should be enough for a whole house treatment (120 sq m). See (http://www.vetpharmacy.co.uk/dogs-household-flea-sprays-cleaning-hygiene/r-i-p/r-i-p-fleas-extra-household-spray-600ml-pd-236.html)

We have used it because the local moggy who “lodged” with us until recently had a few flea issues!! It seemes to work ok, but obviously cannot comment as yet on the 12 month claim.

You need to treat your home as well as your dog, fleas can lay dormant in hard flooring and skirtings as well as soft furnishings and carpet. So follow the instructions on the can and you should be fine.

Only ever use flea products from your vet or pharmacy (none of this Bob Martin nonsense from the supermarket, completely ineffective and potentially dangerous).

Same goes for household products, vet recommended only, Indorex is particularly good. My whole life I have only had to deal with fleas three times, one for our childhood cat and twice over the last 4 years for my moggies but one occasion was because one had visited a flea infested household!

I treat mine only if I spot fleas and am very vigilant about it, I do not believe in applying chemicals every month, I find it unnecessary and will only reduce its effectiveness.
