Information for anyone waiting to here from tax credits

Be kind this is my first post ever!!

A couple of monthes ago i rang family tax to report a change in the hours i work and also to let them know i was now using a childminder. As i would be paying my childminder over the £175 limit i was told that this area of my claim would have to be dealt with by another team at tax credits. Anyway, after waiting and ringing for the past 6 weeks to chase this up i have finally had a breakthrough.

I rang the main helpline this morning and was told that the SPECIAL team that deal with these sorts of childcare claims had closed to any new claims as they were swamped. As a result he could process my claim for childcare today and i would recieve my backdated payments in the next few days.

He also told me that they were NOT contacting to people to tell them that they could process these sorts of childcare claims immediately.

So if anyone has been referred like me to the speacialist team just ring the main helpline and they should be able to help now.

HOPE THIS HELPS SOMEONE

hi, i have just tried this myself as i was referred to the specialist team on 13th sept and am still waiting, and was fobbed off with the usual thing i have been every other day for last 3 weeks that i need to keep ringing the stupid 08456012944 number that is constantly number busy. My situation has been escalated to tax credits head office twice and i have now also put in 2 complaints with no avail... anyone have any other ideas as my childminder is now threatening to not have my 2 children if its not sorted within the next 2 weeks due to me owing her just short of a grand in childcare!!!!!!
They want people to work yet make it virtually impossible for them to do so?????
  • Hello mummym
I had to pay my childminder outof my own pocket - then wait for the claim to be sorted - i wouldn't expect my childminder to wait for her money.
Hope they get it sorted soon.

Hi thanks, i have been giving her as much as i can every 4 weeks when i get paid, but i really cannot afford to give her the full 220 a week out of my 120 a week i earn and tax credits else my kids wouldnt be able to eat etc.
I hope they get it sorted very soon aswell.
  • Hi mummym, sorry to here it didn,t work for you. It sounds like we are in the same situation with regards paying our childminders. I should receive my money and back payments on Tuesday. I initially started my claim for childcare on Sep 13th aswell.
  • There is a big delay in the award of Childcare costs due to the amount of fraud taking place.A recent case in Scotland captured a group a fraudsters who raked in half a million between them over 3 years.
