Can anyone advise who is the best value for mobiles in Northern Ireland at the moment - I live in Fermanagh so there will be a fair bit of roaming involved. Thanks in advance.

hi get a 02 Ireland sim from the south if you are going to do a lot of roaming around the border as 02 Ireland has scraped roaming charges in Ireland so you wont be paying the £1.50 min roaming charges from 02 uk,also if you get an 02 phone from the south you can get up to 80 euros in credit send me a PM and I will tell you how to get your 80 euro credit ,I have done this about 4 times so I know it works

I've been with O2 since they where BT Cellnet and fancy a change, I have tried various different sim cards but can't seem to get that great coverage.

I'd put them in this sort of order around the Mid Ulster area

    O2
    Vodafone
    Orange
    3
    T-Mobile
    Virgin

Is it a similar story all over Northern Ireland? I do want to change but need coverage, T-Mobile is definately the worst

I have experience of three, O2 and orange. I would rate them in that order with three being by far the best for reception.
    2 + 2 = 4
except for the general public when it can mean whatever they want it to.
  • as someone who does the mobile buying for the company I work for, the general consensus is that overall O2 has the best coverage, there are dead spots in certain areas but overall they would appear to have the best.

why do you fancy a change? at the end of the day its the means to an end........to phone or text someone..........if its not broke don't fix it is what I say!lol

Me too ... but don't ever ask me to go back to O2 without a heavily documented contract making sure they follow through on all their promises ... absolutely awful customer care / service.

As for an answer to the OP, there really isn't much difference between the top 3 in performance / coverage. Personally I'd rank them as below: -

    Vodafone
    Orange
    O2 / BT
    T-mobile
    Three
    Virgin

Personally I've had no experience of T-mobile or Three in NI but I can comment from experience on all of the others.

Vodafone (mine) & O2 (son's) seem evenly matched coverage wise in Mid Ulster, but Vodafone definitely have it on customer care / service. (IMHO)

What I like about 3 is that they don't have roaming charges across the border anymore. Means you can take the phone all over the show and not have to worry about someone calling you and racking up big call charges.

BT Mobile have been Vodafone for over a year now, after finally splitting from O2, one company I worked for had BT Mobile, and when it switched to the Voda version we had many many problems, the old numbers wouldn't port properly, when they did they stopped working after 3 months, the coverage was awful especially in ROI - apparently Voda don't give BT Mobile the top of the range coverage, service etc that a normal Vodafone customer would have - so a rep told me - because why would they give someone else the same as their direct customers for less? money..........could all be conjecture though

    Use 3 networks regularly: o2, Orange, T-mobile
I can't see much difference between o2 and Orange but T-mobile's coverage isn't quite as good.
