Urgent Help needed!

Hi

Hoping someone can advise. My Oh took his motorbike in for a service last weekend, which the garage told him would be between £400 and £500. Fine, he had budgeted for this. They called mid week to sat they were ordering some parts and that it would be closer to the £500 mark. All ok.

Then today they call and tell him his bike is ready, but total cost is £832!! He has asked why they didn't call to ask before they did the work but they didn't have much of an answer, just that they has to order expensive parts etc.

Not sure what we can do now, we don't have the extra £350! Is it normal that they can do work without at least asking you first??

Please help!

Thanks

No they should not have done the extra work without letting him know. What parts were fitted? And for the record 400-500 is a lot for a service!! I assume it was a major service with valve clearances etc?

Yes it was a big service, it hadn't had one for a while. I think they said they replaced the valves.

We are here not really sure what to do now. They have his bike so, looks like we have to pay it somehow? I just can't believe they did the work without asking. Is that even legal? lol

Replaced the valves? pretty drastic as they would need to be bent for that to be required.

First thing is to get a comprehensive list of exactly what they have done. No additional work should have been done over and above the service without your express condition. Replacing valves would never be deemed as part of a service.

Thank you. Sorry, I think I got that bit slightly wrong, dont think the valves have been replaced. OH is on his way to the garage to try and negotiate. He'll probably end up paying for the whole thing :(

Perhaps the original quote was ex-VAT? That could account for at least some of the difference.
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.

Fingers crossed for him. I am still a bit stunned at the cost he was quoted for servicing though, would be worth him registering with a bike chat site and ask for recommendations of local garages.
