Excel - Formatting Numbers

Here again with another Excel question!
How can I format a column of numbers all to be four digits? eg. 2 46 285 1890 would become 0002 0046 0285 and 1890.
Currently this is being done with, for example, =RIGHT("0000"&A1,4), and then copying and pasting back (paste special...) as values; but I'd like to know if there's an easier way! I don't have Excel at home so I can't have a play with it myself.

Not that I know of.
Personally I'd write a visual basic function that split the contents up and then rebuilt the string.
Then from the top level you couls do
A2=sort_the_string(A1)Happy chappy0 -
