HELP refunding through Paypal

ive just added and confirmed my bank account to Paypal, but it takes 5-7 days to transfer the funds across.. my credit card that i used with my Paypal acct expires end of this month, had to reconfirm the number, but i cant seem to refund a Ebay buyer who'd item got lost by RoyalMail, what am i doing wrong?

You can't if there are no funds in the account.

i never used to have to transfer money into the account to use it, used to just be charged on my credit card each month, how comes i cant refund this way?

Refunds are different you must use cleared funds in your paypal account. If you are buying then you can still use your card to fund immediate payments.
