credit card insurance, does it exist?

I recently fell for a scam on the internet and bought what I thought was a laptop. Unfortunatley I have learnt that the site now does not exist and now I am £174 poorer. I made a payment to western union on my credit card, and the con merchants picked payment up from western union.
I thought I may have had some insurance using my credit card, however my bank inform me that because it is classed as a money transfer I will not get any money back. Really disappointed.
Is this correct?
Has anybody else had similar problems?

Thanks

Yes thats right. You sent some money to someone else via Western Union that worked fine. Thats the end of the transction as far as the Credit card company is concerned. What the recepients of the money promissed you is a private matter between you and them.

Sorry to read about your troubles. If you Google "Western Union Scam" you will find that you are not alone.

Why are peoples so careless about their money...it just astonish me to see that some are willing to through money out of the window....western union should have sounded alarm bells...and remember that when something is too good to be true then it is...and to be twice as cautious..
  • thanks for all your comments, (except last comment), I am usually very careful with money and never give details out over the phone, shred everything, if my husband stood still long enough I'd probably shred him. The e-mail I received was from a friends account, advertising this company, little did I know her account was corrupt. The site even had green tick and padlock to say safe site.
Never heard of western union so did not realise I should have been concerned. Next time I will obviously be more wary, expensive lesson to learn.
    Thanks all
