VERY Beware of buy "now pay next october "sham

My wife recieved a letter from very saying she can bnpl, so she ordered me a set of headphones on thursday morning £150 and used the option "buy now pay october next year" its a set of headphones i have been lokking at for a while and plus Quidco would be cheaper than anyone else. This morning she got a call from very saying she cant have them on bnpo and has to have them on a credit account @ 39apr.which i told her to decline.

Just a little concerned that others might order goods they want for xmas thinking they will get them on bnpl and pay it off january or whenever before october next year so it has been interest free.Only for very to be using this as a marketing ploy to get you into ordering goods and getting you into there grasp and never ending credit agreement.

........ or the BNPL is subject to a stricter credit vetting process than the higher interest (high risk, high interest) accounts?

I dont know to be honest, i have an account and my wife has an account and we usually buy outright. But they gave us both a credit limit which neither of us has any intention of using when we first opened our accounts.

They sent me wife a £10 off code this week along with her own code for BNPL a different code than they have on there website. Neither worked .

Did you try to use both the £10 off code and the BNPL code at the same time? I think there is something in their terms and conditions that don't allow this.

I've used Very for the past year, and everything I've bought has been on BNPL. I've currently got 4 BNPL deals sitting on my account and I'm currently just paying off the one that is due in November. I've never had a problem with them rejecting the BNPL.

Had 3 items on BNPL never been refused. As CH19a says it might be trying to combine offers (something which is 99.9% of the time not allowed with any offer, anywhere you buy).

Could it be high APR ? Well my account is 35.9%, I'd consider that high, but only ever buy when things are on special and I can use BNPL and as I say never had a problem.

I would contact Very to find out why.

Nothing to do with the codes as the £10 off came on its own the day after the order was put through.

Going to put the order through again and when they phone up , ask why not.

  • You can still pay them off interest free on BNPL. If your payment was due on 14th October and you paid the full original balance say on the 10th, then you wouldn't pay any interest.

  • I used to sell this service. Be careful and ask yourself if your really need it.

For example, does anyone but a serious audiophile need 150 pound headphones? Most people would not be able to tell the difference between them and 30 quid JVCs.

There not just headphones, they are a wireless gaming headset. I have earphones that i use which cost me £8.99 but there not wireless and there is no built in mic on them.

I can get them from anywhere, but just wanted to do it through very as i dont want to spend that amount at this very time, and would rather pay for them in january.if its a case of waiting till january then so be it.
