name change on package holiday

Options
Hi there. My friend and her partner have split after booking thier package holiday abroad (not sure where and who with) in May 2011. Obviously they wont be going together now, and so she was hoping to find someone to take her ex's place. Can this be done and will it cost? Am presuming no tickets have been issued yet

  • The cost depends on who you have booked with and how long before the holiday as well. Se may get lucky and get a sympathetic advisor and get it done for free!
Aim to win in 2013 - a holiday somewhere nice, New York break, treats for family & friends & some cash would be lovely!!!

This isn't just a name change though, is it? The ex partner has cancelled and a new person will be booking.

if she is the lead name and the holiday is with say, Thomas Cook and its on a charter flight, she will be able to change the name. it will cost £20 to do

it all depends on a lot of things. firstly, as pointed out above, who the holiday was booked through, and how it was booked. for example if it was 'packaged together' using a low cost airline, then they will probably have to forgoe the full cost of the flight as these are normally non refundable, and changing names can be more expensive than re-booking a new flight.

if, however, it was booked as a normal package holiday, through a travel agen, and a charter flight has been used, then a name change should be simple enough......

    HOWEVER.........

it will all depend on who the 'lead passenger' is, ie - who is named first on the booking, and is therefore in control of the booking. Officially, it is only this person who can make changes to the booking. so if your female friend is not the lead passenger on the booking, she has no authority to amend the booking - only her ex (which, if he his feeling kind will be able to sign the booking over, however he too might be looking at changing her name so he can still go on the holiday with some other friend of his!).
