Video to DVD

I'm looking to transfer some old home films from VHS to DVD. The better quality ones I've done via SCART from my video recorder to DVD recorder. I've tried this method with some of my older ones where the quality is quite poor on them and unfortunately my DVD recorder won't pick up a signal. A friend of mine said I could try getting a video capture card or something like that for my PC. Does anyone have any ideas? If I do need a video capture card (or whatever they're called) can anyone recommend one. I know I won't be able to get the quality any better but I'd just like to get them onto DVD so I needn't be frightened of my old VHS machine chewing the tapes.

I had the same problem and posted a thread not long ago. I have a pc capture card on my machine, anywayI hooked up the video and in the end for some reason woulnt pick this up so I imported the old vhs stuff into a package I had (pinnacle ) but later did the same thing via windows movie maker on xp.0

Thanks for the advice. I've now got a Kworld USB2800D DVD maker and it's excellent. I have though traded the boxed software for my prefered version of Video Stuidio 10. All in all an excellent buy. Only one piece of advice if anyone buys this you need to buy a Scart to 3 phono plugs lead with an In-Out switch (it doesn't tell you this when you get it, it took me hours of browsing articles on it to work out what was wrong). Bought a standard Scart to 3 phono lead from Currys and couldn't get it working. Took it back next day and got one at Maplin (1/2 the price of Currys as well). Well done to Currys though as despite the fact I'd wrecked the packaging trying to open it they took it back with no fuss at all. As I'm writing this various episodes of long forgotton TV programmes are being transferred to hard drive ready for editing and burining to DVD. Thanks again for all your suggestions. I'd resommend this piece of kit to anyone. It's really easy to install/use.0
