What is Peterborough like?

Hi Guys

Looking at the Orton Longueville area in Peteborough. Any opinions?

The Mrs works in Stamford and I will have to travel to London everyday (by train) so Peterborough seems like a good middle ground. Any other good areas in Peterborough? Hampton?

Cheers

hate the place, full of concrete council estates and far too many roundabouts

Are you referring to Orton Longueville or Peterborough in general? I guess every town/city has its fair share of run down areas.

    Anyone else?
  • Peterborough is an awful place , i live near but never go into peterboro. I've been only twice i found it depressing.

I've been there several times for work and found the whole place depressing and in places quite run-down. The new estates of which there are many, are very confusing to navigate to and even more so through. The centre of the town is traffic free and last year was undergoing a facelift, not before time. It's not a town I would want to live in, given a choice.

    Not a glowing report, sorry!

I teach in Peterborough and find it a depressing city. There seems to be a disregard for most "old" things - work colleagues and I agree that if they could get away with it, the city council would flatten the cathedral as it's in their way!

Even the "nicer" areas are becoming depressing. If you MUST then one of the better Ortons or Longthorpe.

A few people that I know who work in London actually commute from Oundle (train from either Huntingdon, Peterborough or Corby) or Stamford (15 mins on the train to Peterborough from Stamford, then mainline down) - or one of the Rutland villages.

  • Well the comments are pretty unanimous.. Peterborough is a no go.

I'm contemplating living in Stamford (been there a few times and its lovely) but commuting to London everyday will be quite exhausting.

What about Huntingdon? Someone told me its worse than Peterborough.

Haven't been to Huntingdon for years, but it was always going to beat Peterborough!
