hi, last tues 12th oct i was told by letter there is a possibility that the branch that i work for in preston was to close down with possible redundancies, on thurs 14th i was told it was definately closing at the end of oct 2010 but the all work was being relocated to another branch in liverpool, i was given a print out of statatory redundancy payments by my boss and i was offered a part time job within the company although at the moment i am full time. i refused the job and said i would like the redundancy, on monday 18th oct i was asked again if i would reconsider if full time work was offered, i said no, i was thanked for all my work over the years and i asked my boss what my finishing date was, he said i have 5 weeks notice and would be finished on the 18th nov, i also asked if i found another job before my finish date would it affect my redundancy payment, he said it wouldnt affect my payment. on monday afternoon i had a interview and tuesday i was offered the job which i took, i handed my one week notice in on wednesday 20th oct ,on thurs 21st oct i was asked again would i not reconsider the job offered, i said no only to be told there is no redundancy package and i havnt actually been made redundant yet!! i feel like i am being robbed of my redundancy and extremeley upset because i feel like im being penalised for not taking the job offered. should i chase this up or just cut my losses,

I'm afraid that if you have not actually been made redundant yet, then the employer is correct and by handing in your notice you have lost your redundancy payment. The crucial thing is whether you have formally been issued with a redundancy notice (not an at risk notice, but the actual letter saying that you are being made redundant on such and such day) - if you haven't then I am afraid you will have to accept that you will get no redundancy pay. If you have, post back and it may be possible to retrieve the situation - but not guaranteed!0
