    Interesting one.

Unauthorised products do not necessarily infringe any intellectual property rights.

By preventing the use of legitimate products, Sony could be seen as acting against the interests of a free and competitive market and is thereby abusing its position from a competition law perspective.

Enforcement? Unless you have deep pockets, you will have a huge problem on your hands.

As you say you need deep pockets, Sony have lost cases before, but in this case it's definately not worth it.

I could imagine if they said only to be connected to a Sony Bravia TV their would be an outrage :rotfl:

The fact is Sony make money from those who produce products that are compatible and authorized/licensed whatever you want to call it with the PS3. So it stands to reason they don't want any unathorized/unlicensed hardware/software as that takes money away from them.

I think the key difference is that the controllers/games/peripherals directly interact WITH the console. If a controller has a lag switch or some other naughty ability, it can affect gameplay.

A TV doesn't interact with the console, it's just there displaying the picture. No matter what you do to the TV it's not sending anything to the console.

Unless of course you have a ps3 slim and newer Bravia tv. In which case the Bravia remote can also turn on the PS3 and activate certain functions.
    Back by no demand whatsoever.

Is that through bravia sync, or the ps3 having an IR receiver?
  • I had two unlicensed controllers purchased from Blockbuster. Went into store today, all armed with the sale of goods act and the requirement for the controllers to be fit for purpose but they offered me a refund straight away. Take it up with your retailer. Good luck
