Buying a car - rights.
Hi there
I would like to get your advice as yesterday I went to see and intend to buy a car.
I have checked the car properly but I could not go for a drive test as the buyer was at that time at work and she said we can come back tomorrow what I did.I went this morning and she was asking for 3400 pounds ONO.
As car had some faults was not in a perfect condition I offered her 3100.She agreed with the price but said she can not sell me now as she still needs this car for a while.I was a bit surprised and she said she will call me back later today when she speaks to her friend who was intend to sell her a new car.
She did not call me at all.I have a question if she accepted the price and gave me verbal agreement it is the same as a written contract?
I would like to buy this car but can we force her somehow to do it.
Do I have any rights at all??

No you have no rights. I would suggest she is hoping for a better offer and will keep you hanging on while it suits her.0 -
As above, probably one of those people who didn't have the gonads to tell you directly what they thought of your offer.Remember kids, it's the volts that jolt and the mills that kill.0

give her a ring and call her bluff, tell her you've seen another car you like, and if she cant do the deal in a reasonable time, then tough, walk away. plenty of bargains out there at the momentBe Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0

You do have a contract with her.
You have a contract to the effect that she will agree to sell for the agreed price at a time of her choosing - not yours. You both have an equal right to withdraw from that contract at any time, without penalty.
Had you paid a deposit, everything would remain the same as above but if either of you withdrew the deposit would have to be returned.
When I first read your thread title I thought you meant from a retailer so.......... Had this been from a retailer
New car, you can expect the car to be without fault, and by keeping it and driving it without complaint you will be deemed to have accepted the car, if you find fault with it (within reasonable time) and repair the fault at your own expense -without notifying the seller- that again will be an act of acceptance. Once 'accepted' the car cannot be rejected. If you find fault within reasonable time and take it back to seller, you can either reject the car or say "I wish to make it clear I do not accept the car until you have rectified this fault". Rejection is when you return the car and expect a full refund.
If you find fault after "acceptance" has taken place. You can no longer reject the car, but the seller has to either repair, replace or refund. If they refund they can deduct an amount for the use of the vehicle that you had from it.
Used car from retailer, You can expect the car to be satisfactory, which means that the car functions as a car of that age would reasonably be expected to function and in the first instance to be roadworthy and driveable. However, should the car develop a minor fault, that would be considered your responsibility to repair it at your cost, because it was reasonable for a car of that age to have a minor fault(s). Should the car develop a major fault, the seller would have to repair it if it was not reasonable or to be expected that a car of that age should develop such a fault. If it is a very old car you can expect to have to repair it at your own cost, unless you can show that the fault was there at the time of sale, or the seller cannot show that it wasn't there at the time of sale.
If the used car comes with a warranty that can help you to reject it within the warranty period for a full refund. Because a warranty implies a period of trouble free motoring.
Used car from private sale, usually 'sold as seen' you have no comeback whatsoever against seller. Your only protection is contract law, so unless you have a breach of contract, you have no claim against seller. As most private sales are done virtually without contract. The only contract you usually have with the seller is "I give you agreed amount, you give me title to the car" As long as you have the car and title your contract is completed.0
