Has anyone joined the Metro Bank yet? I was thinking of opening a savings account just so that I can use the coin drop machine.. LOL. But no interest rates on the website at all.

There are, but they're well hidden. Try going here:

Then click on the various accounts listed under Important Information Summaries of each product.

Rates are shown in the 'Important Information Summaries' here - https://www.metrobankonline.co.uk/personal/savings/Important-Information-Summaries/

e.g. Instant Access Savings - Variable at 0.5% AER (Annual Equivalent Rate); Fixed Term - 1 year fixed rate 2.50% AER
3 year fixed rate 3.00% AER

Buried away (due to shame, I think):

    Instant Access Savings 0.5%.

    Current Account 0.0%

But if you're taking the dog for a walk in central London, they're great I hear.

When I opened my current account, I think the advisor did tell me that ANYONE can use that coin machine even not their customer...I don't know if I heard it right. But it took me more than an hour just openning a current account!

Oh thanks to all of you. It is well hidden and no wonder. I like the bit that says they'll pay no interest if there's under £100 in the account. Still it might be worth it to get rid of the coins I've acquired.

I drove down to London on Tuesday from my home in Leicestershire. I went straight to the Metro Bank branch in Holborn and saw a bank rep within a couple of minutes. It took around 20 minutes to open the account with an overdraft facility.

It is fair to point out then when I left the branch I had a cheque book and debit card and the PIN had been set up by me on their terminal. I had entered the security questions and answers for the online banking on the banks's computer so had nothing else to do.

It has been a long time since I opened a current account in a bank branch but I remember it taking longer than this with the bank concerned trying to sell me other services, then I had to wait for a debit card in the post, a PIN, an online banking PIN - maybe in two parts - then I had to visit an ATM to change the debit card PIN to one I wanted, then set up online banking. Much more time involved and much more hassle.

I have initially opened the account just to use it casually for a month or two to see how it goes. So far I am pleased - the Mastercard debit card has been accepted everywhere locally and online and the Metro Bank online banking does a decent job, although I agree the site is a little garish.

The way things are going I will probably transfer completely from my current bank to Metro Bank.

Just for completion in case anyone comes across this thread via google or whatever.. you don't have to be a customer to use the coin changing machines at the Metro Bank and they don't take any commission. In addition if you guess (or have counted like I had) the amount of coins they give you a prize.. LOL.. I wanted one of their money boxes and they actually gave me two along with my 20 quid. A useful service and friendly staff who I suspect are bored with few customers so extra nice to those who come in.

Just wanted to say that Metro Bank has now opened it's 2nd branch in Borehamwood, ideal for those of us who are North London/Hertfordshire! Haven't been, I only just saw the advert in todays freebie paper.

This will be their fourth branch.

The 2nd was in Earl's Court and the third in Fulham Broadway.
