Delay in charging debit card

Hi there,
Any advice on this issue would be much appreciated!
Over two months ago I bought some shoes from a store in Westfield using my current account debit card, and I've just checked my bank balance to see that they have only just taken the money from my account.
While I should have noticed that they hadn't charged me when I bought the shoes, it is annoying to see this disappear from my account months after the purchase. It hasn't helped my budgeting this month!
Is there anything I can do about this, or do I just have to shrug my shoulders and accept I should have kept better track of my expenses in the first place?
Thanks,
CymroJim

This query seems quite a common one on MSE.
Although the first response was a little... ermmm... blunt, it's pretty much on the mark.
The retailer would probably argue that you spent the money and knew that it would be debited, so should have budgeted/accounted for it soon to be leaving the account."Part P" is not, and has never been, an accredited electrical qualification. It is a Building Regulation. No one can be "Part P qualified."

The authorisation obtained by the retailer for a transaction lasts 6 months, the retailer can ask you for the money for 6years however. It's annoying but you have to allow for these transactions. I've an outstanding transaction from Primark. I'm pretty certain they've lost it, but I bet if I spend the money elsewhere it will suddenly reappear! And yes, you are responsible for any overdraft charges this may cause.0
