Difficulties finding a job

Identify all of the potential employers in your particular field and send speculative letters to every single one of them. This is how I got myself interviews for two jobs which weren't even being advertised. I start a new job on Monday.
Also, you should contact each of the agencies which you've signed up with at least once a week. If they don't hear from you they may assume that you've made alternative arrangements.0 -
If it's not too long ago that you had your four failed interviews re-contact the companies and ask for feedback on your interviews. It may help you to identify any weaknesses you may have.
For another job agency try http://www.jobserve.com/ they were originally just in the IT sector but they seem to have branched out.
Haven't seen your CV but you may want to add an executive summary after the contact details (which should be the first item). The summary is one short paragraph which says where you are in your career, where you want to be and over what time span, whether you are willing to re-locate, and what you can bring to your potential new employers. It's your chance to sell yourself and saves the employer having to wade through loads of info about what you've done in the past.0 -
4 interviews is fine. See thefact you were interviewed as a positive. All i seem to get offered are those "marketing" jobs which are no more than door to door selling on a commission. i search the sites everyday and give myself goals. i havent registered to monster so i'll give that a try. i agree with sending your CV and prospecting letters to potential employers. this is how my mum got a job and its what i do now too. good luck, make yourself stand out and try and b epositive.0

Have you put a suit on and made copies of your CV and visited your local town/pubs/businesses?
I don't think these days you can get away with simply emailing/phoning, you need to get out there and find one.

Hi Mistymemo,
I don't have much to add to what others have said. I too have been unemployed for the last 3.5 months and had just the one interview! I did get the job, but am still surprised how poor the market is.
I am no stranger to job hunting, having been made redundant twice within three years.
Have you tried www.indeed.co.uk it is a job search site that searches all the other sites.
I find agencies to be less useful than a chocolate teapot.
Though I would be interested to see how linkedin works, perhaps you could post an update on how sucessful that is.0 -
Don't get disheartened just yet. I've been looking for 8 months, had about 6 interviews and failed all of them. More than one came back and said they went with someone less experienced for the temp contract which wasn't nice to hear.
I finally have three weeks work on a temp contract with a possible extension depending on workload. Its not wonderful but it is something.0 -

Just stop right there. You do not pass or fail interviews.I have been unemployed for 4 months now and so far I have only had 4 interviews all of which I have failed.
You either get the job or you don't. If on the day, someone else got it, it could always be the case that they would have employed you happily, but for the fact that the other candidate turned up and was chosen instead. In fact if the shortlisting was done correctly, all of the interviewed candidates should be worthy of the job.
