Upgrading from iphone 3GS to 4

Hi all
A few months ago I upgraded my old 3G to a 3GS and gave my old one to my DD. Recently she dropped it and broke the internal aerial (apparently) so I made a claim on the home insurance.
The company just called me and have told me they will replace with a iPhone 4!
So my plan is to give her my 3GS and keep the 4 for myself. No way am I giving her a brand new v4!
My question is this though. How do I get all my settings, apps & music etc onto the new phone? Doing it all manually will take forever. Plus I have lots of customised settings like access to my company email etc. which i'd have to set all up again.
I have everything backed up via iTunes.
Is there a simple way to do all this?
Thanks

yep when you plug it into itunes just select 'set up from backup' and not 'set up as new' that should set all your setings exactly the same and also your saves for any games0

Thanks for that info. That sounds painless. I'm not much of an Apple fan boi but I have to admit, on ease of use they do generally get it right!
Another question for people. Has anyone used one of them microsim cutters which will convert a normal sized to microsim? Vodafone want to charge me £20 for a microSIM! A cutter is about £6 from ebay!0 -
you dont need a cutter any pair of scissors should do the job easy enough guides here and here and plenty more on the internet.
I'm shocked by the £20 quote though.
also the backup wont contain your music or your apps both will have to sync accross to the phone in exact the same way as if you sync your phone now, but it will contain your app save data,
Also before you pass on your phone be sure to 'transfer app purchases', if you have bought apps on your phone which havent been copied to the computer yet, if you have only bought apps on the computer then you dont need to do this0 -
Thanks for the info. Having seen the guides, think i might play it safe and order a sim cutter. I'd probably mess it up then have to pay the £20 for a new SIM so might as well just get a cutter now. Plus it might come in handy for friends as they upgrade as time goes on.
Cheers0 -
£20!!! I got a straight swap in a 3 store. Congrats on the iPhone 4 btw0

Hmmm, i just realised something. My 3GS is locked to a different provider to my daughter's.....argh! I am on 4.01 still. Is there a easy way to unlock the phone? I dont mind jailbreaking it.
*edit* Just seen something called a Rebel SIM card. Anyone any experience with these?0 -
>Is there a easy way to unlock the phone?<
Who is it with now? O2 will unlock for free if under contract or a small charge if PAYG. Not sure about the rest.0 -
It's currently with Vodafone.0

I dont think vodafone unlocks iphone but best bet is to ask them, afaik you can unlock the 3GS on 4.0.1 by jailbreaking and unlocking.
a bigger problem is if the iphone 4 comes locked to your daughters network as there is a jailbreak for 4.1 but there is no way to unlock to unlock it (other than official ways) (hopefully you get a sim free one)
EDIT: yes vodafone do unlock the iphone, request it at this link http://campaigns.vodafone.co.uk/UnlockCodeRequestForm/ info here0 -
Argh...fiddle sticks!!!
I've just realised that if the insurance company supply an iPhone 4 locked to O2 (my daughter's network) then I am up the creek. I'll call them and see what they can do. Ideally I want a SIM free one.
Otherwise it may end up with my 14yr old DD running around with the 4 whilst I have to make do with the 3GS!?!
