  • My mum rang me a few weeks ago to tell me she had got some of my little boys christmas presents in the 'asda half price sale' ...4 things for a total of £80. Doesnt sound too bad when i considered the fact that id spent £90 at the disney store on 4 things myself...However the things she bought were round about £20 each 'half price' ... Except theyre pretty much less than £20 each everywhere else anyway not 'on sale' . I told her this. Basically that she had been ripped off beyond all belief and she didnt belive me,she said it was a bargain  ... and that i was wrong lol. Even when i showed her them online cheaper elsewhere she just shrugged and said asda wouldnt say half price if they wernt half price.
It pretty much confirmed my belief that my mother is a more than little stupid ... But thats a whole other story..... :o

I got quite excited when I heard they were having a half price sale and thought they were finally going to compete with the Sainsburys half price toy sale.

I couldn't believe what I saw when I went in to Asda the other day. There is not a chance those toys were ever that price, I don't even think they are worth it at the half price mark!

As you can guess I left the store quite annoyed actually because there were people thinking they were getting bargains :(. Absolutely no competition for the Sainsburys sale. I always thought Asda prided itself in being the cheaper supermarket but when it comes to the prices of their toys they are most definitely not. To say they are owned by Walmart it amazes me. We go to Walmart when we go to the US, the toys in Walmart are really cheap, what you pay in £s here you pay the same figure, but in $s over there.

Rant over, it does wind me up though, sorry! :o
    Great post :T:T
Love Walmart and Macy's too :D
Especially just before Xmas when a lot of stock gets reduced to silly prices :j
Something that stores over here have just started doing. Another case of rip-off Britain :(

  • i like the adverts on telly when they say sold at XXX price and the dates

however it mainly seems to be electronics retailers who's goods are no longer the top spec and so they have naturally reduced the price.

it's really really difficult to decide what is a bargain and what isn't these days.

I can't speak for Asda as I haven't been there in a while but Tesco, yes, I UTTERLY agree!!

Mr Sessie and I went there the other day as we saw the ads for the sale and the "half price" toys were pretty much just inside the door so we had a look for Xmas presents. Our twins are REALLY into Little People stuff - they had some there that they reckoned "was £40". Yeah and I "was" a supermodel two weeks ago!!

I can't see how they get away with it - well yes, I know they DO mark it up for the prescribed period and then down again but it's infurating and only makes me more determined not to shop there for ANYTHING.

There is s thread in grabbit re the dolls house for £35 this is comparable to
A non sale Argos item that is £5 more but comes with all the furniture and accessories
Which the asda one doesn't , not so much of a bargain in all.

I know! I was reading that before. They must all be batty. Someone actually said that you can also buy the furniture for £12 in the sale down from £25 to go with the 'bargain' house . So thats £30 + £12 all for something that can be bought complete for £35 elsewhere not on sale? Crazy!!

totally agree with the overprice. as the garage i bought the same one in last years sale at asda for £10, will be waiting this year for the "sale stuff" to go further reduced as i have my eye on the electric guitars as an extra bonus present 1 each for my elder 3 sons but not paying £180 for them.
My poor 15 yr old daughter broke her wrist i 5:eek: places tonight poor little mite was screaming in agony, all casted temp now and fingers crossed no surgery needed to fix.

I got a few things in the Tesco 1/2 price toy sale a few weeks ago but I double checked most prices on Google before I commited to Tesco. As an example I bought the Littlest Petshop Biggest Littlest Petshop for £20. Amazon are selling it through a 3rd party for over £40 and eBay cheapest was £30. I also got some Playmobil for DS priced at £20 and again, similar prices online to the Petshop set.

It may have been a half price sale for what Tesco charge but not half price compared to elsewhere but I still made a big saving.

One thing that annoyed me recently was an SEL for Green & Blacks chocolate. In big writing under every bar it said it was free. I knew I wasn't going to be walking to the checkout with free preggo craving chocolate so I literally stood there baffled. Finally on one of the SELs it said the bar of choc was free with a box of G&B liquer chocs if I remember correctly.
