WARNING: Colchester Camera Repair Service

I recently had cause to have a Canon compact camera repaired. It was a small fault; one of the buttons didn't work.
I chose Colchester Camera Repair Service because they were listed on the Canon site as an authorised repair centre. Unfortunately, despite describing the problem to them in email and over the phone, they were "unable" to give me a figure or estimate for repair and insited that I send the camera in. £5+ postage to ensure insurance.
Once they had the camera, I got an email telling me that their figure was £80.23 for a "general service and minor parts but that they couldn't quote properly until the engineer looked at it".
I got a cheaper price via mail from EuroHiTech but that isn't my point. It is clear that Colchester Cameras want you to send the camera in on the basis that you are far more likely to have the work undertaken once they have it. It would appear that the £80 fee is a standard cost that could be published on their site, but isn't; nor will they disclose it over the phone or by email until they have the camera.
My advice: avoid unless you are under warranty. EuroHiTech were prompt, friendly and helpful so there are no reasons for these shenanigans. :mad:
