Don't worry honey you're not alone, find myself scrimping to buy such things (£20 week coke habit - coca cola - my OH has) in one hand out the other I'm afraid. Winds me up when he uses that he works to try to excuse it, I just keep 'forgetting' to buy things as much as possible. I've tried the sit down and talk, don't think he gets it. He gives me a set amount per week from his pay and has no idea or interest about paying bills. Thankfully this works ok for us now as I have left him responsibility before and bills didn't get paid.

I often "forget" to get stuff from the supermarket :rotfl:

I've managed to drop a level on a lot of foods, I come home with a value/basics brand and say, look how cheap this is, I thought we could try it and if we like it ok, if not I'll get the usual one and to my surprise there's a lot of them that he's happy with. Sainsburys own cola he now prefers instead of coca cola, though that's the only own brand one he will drink. Sainsburys whiskey is apparently nicer than the cheapish branded whiskey, though not as nice as the more expensive ones apparently but tough!

It is frustrating though, bugs me when hubby refuses to turn off computer when he's away from it for a couple of hours as takes too long to turn back on. But he does now turn off lights when he leaves a room and doesn't leave the tv on stand-by so I'm grateful for small miracles but it is annoying that he seems to never worry about money where as I am constantly thinking about the lack of it.
There is no issue so small that it can't be blown out of proportion

I have the same problem, I find the OH putting the heating on when he's sitting in shorts and a t-shirt :wall: I say to him to put a jumper on but he says he works hard for his money so he can have the heating on if he wants. It seems to me that he gets all the treats while I'm scrimping and getting nothing - he gets something nice for lunch everyday while I'm left eating his sandwiches that he's "forgotten"! Still, he earns the money, I don't. I'm trying to reduce the food bills and sneakily cut corners though, makes me feel very smug, even if we are still left with nothing at the end of the month...

My Dh calls me a skin flint and tuts at me when i put the chicken carcass or bones from the roast in the freezer. But he doesnt moan when he has fresh soup from my fridge bottom variety . Takeaway once a month and my ds is 3 years old so he just eats what he is given , I have down shifted on a lot and slow cook alot of food as well as home bake, my bread machine is always on .

Our weekly treat is a roast , but I barter with my butcher so much he just tells me how low he will go , although I still push my luck . I have started to go to a local farm to see what I can get cheap as well.

Offal is a good food source in our house , I quarterly go round to my freinds and we make sausages. My hubby gets chocolate but it is own brand value stuff now , which he quite likes. There is never a shortage of food in the house , and its all home made and good stuff, there is always an abundence of fruit which isnt shop bought , but from a local asian marketstalkl which means I can get a weeks fruit and veg for about 7 quid .

I will be growning my own from next year as my mums garden is all turned over and fertilised , just have to wait till the end of the frost to plant and I cant wait for home grwon veg. Want to keep chuckins as well , but her gardens not suitable.

I used to get moaned at , but DH has definatly come round.

All I seem to get is, is there no crisps? no coke? nice biscuits? Can we have a chinese? Can we have a chippy ?

Nope, nope, nope. Only if you are paying. Only if you are paying.

However; if this is because you are tight on budget then fine. but sometimes; it does help for the odd chippy trip every now and then - make the pizza at home; send someone out to the chippy and pop the pizza in the oven; and have pizza and chips for tea. If it's not going to break the bank then there's nothing wrong with it.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

Well I've just had complaints from the step kid because I only do washing at weekends (I work full time - his mum doesn't). Apparently he's complaining to his mum that his uniform isn't cleaned.... was it in the wash basket last weekend? No, was it in the wash basket the weekend before? No. Does we have a tumble dryer like his mum to be able to wash stuff in the evening and it be dry for the next day? No.

And apparently her reply to my buying the step kid clothes from ebay and charity shops is that he shouldn't wear them as he doesn't know who died in them

She works part time, gets home by 3pm the days she does work and still only manages to give the kids frozen pizza or spaghetti hoops on toast for their dinner - every night (and yes they eat most meals and most veg when at ours)! I get home after 6 pm and manage to cook a meal each night.

Feel like giving up. Dunno why I even bother.

  • I had brought OH around to my way of thinking in terms of cutting down etc, but this month he has twice drawn out cash and made us overdrawn at a rate of £22 a time. From pay day next week hes on a tight reign!!

dont worry about her. She is a lazy cow not cooking a proper meal for her children. frozen pizza wonderful and oh so filling.:(

We dont eat out and hardly get takeaways we find it better and cheaper to cook at home. I hate takeaway chips homemade are better and cheaper and i think alot of people who get regular takeaways are lazy and dont know where all the money comes from.

Just carry on and let it all wash over you. YOU know you're doing the sensible thing.

At the end of the day she has her way and you have yours, when it's your house it has to be your way,end of.
Her words have only the power you give them, otherwise it just hot air.

Thanks... I'll try hard to remember that one.

Though I was pleased when the kids brought their maths homework on ratios over to us because "mum can't do ratios" - it was me explaining how to do them to the kids and OH ;)

    Hi :)

I found some other threads which may help - which discuss the same kinds of issues. I can't even imagine how hard it is as I am currently single, but I do see how my boyfriends attitude (for example) completely is polar opposite to mine!
