basic bank account

hello all

i need to open a joint basic bank account either by post or over the net, hsbc have said we need to go into the branch together which is just not possible either im at work or at home with the kids while he is at work apart from sundays which is no good. Can anyone help me, has anyone opened a basic account this way. I need to do this fairly quickly so i can start my bank charges claim which should then clear my overdraft. Thanks for your help.

I opened a nationwide flexaccount via the internet and never needed to go into a branch. Also opened a cooperative account via post and also a Norwich and Peterborough basic account (which includes a cheque book) via the post.

All of the accounts were open very quickly.

thank you Ben cooperative are sending me the forms, and i will contact norwich and peterborough a cheque book would be handy but i could do without.

System

Nationwide will issue counter cheques free of charge on flexAccounts.This is basically a cheque where they take the money out when its issued.

Also, you can do BACS payments to pay bills at the ATM, phone or internet.
