credit card advice/bad history

in Credit cards
hi all,
just looking for some advice so i will give you a short history.
I have been a gambler drinker etc; you name it i was it.
in the past year i had my lightbulb moment and trying to change things.Set up my dmp and pay £77 pounds per week to ward debts of approx £10000 (2 yrs to go)all creditors happy with this so i resigned myself to a couple of years was" good pennance" for my failings previously.
have a good job £35000 and been there several years.
I realise that my credit is shot to bits and will be a few years in repair.however i have been asked by my employer to do a bit extra and that i should use c/c for expenses ,( dont even have a credit card )the upshot is that i dont even pay my wages in to my own account but use my wifes as this has helped me curb my" excesses " so to speak.I have a dormant deposit account with rbs and have left a few pounds to keep it opened.
I know you may think I have been a fool but i am trying to do the right things now and as my employer has always been good to me i really dont want to let him down.
I know i dont deserve a chance with any companies but if there is any advice you can put me on a path to i would be grateful.
thanks in advance:beer:

You say you have a poor history which means the best cards out there you will not qualify for unfortunately mate.
You need to ask your bank for a credit card as they may help, but if thats a no go i'm afraid you will have to start right at the bottom with high interest card such as vanquis or crapital one classic.
Build this up for 12-18 months with no missed payments or late payments then maybe you can start looking at the higher and better deal range of cards out there.
If you do go for the vanquis card try not to go back on the drink when you find out what APR you are paying.0 -
hi star,
agree with you there, but i am pretty sure even the vanquis etc could be a no go.Do you have any knowledge of any of these prepay etc.As i said i am on the right road with a lot of help from mse but think i have to ensure i dont let my employer down as he has been the only solid thing in my life (out with wife and kids, thought i better put that in haha):beer:0 -

I aint got a clue TBH on pre-paid cards,i would seriously try vanquis or crap 1.0 -

If you are currrently on a DMP then this means you are not paying your current debts according to the original contracts.
It is extremely unlikely that anyone knowing you can't pay your current debts will allow you further credit
in addition it is usually a condition of doing a DMP that you don't incur further credit
I really don't understand why you actually feel you need a CC or why it has anything to do with your employer.0 -
hi clapton,
thanks for replying,
appreciate what you are saying and totally understandable.
the issue with my employer is that i would be required to incur expenses and he asked if i could do this via a credit card,i am just trying to move forward and better myself.
perhaps you dont think people should be allowed to under my circumstances,i always beleive people should be given opportunity!:beer:0 -
What other people have said about your DMP is correct, you may simply not be able to get a CC at all. Its not about whether people think you should be allowed an opportunity, the banks just may not want you as a customer as you have defaulted in the past.
It is however, perhaps worth a try with Cap1 or Vanquis.
If you are looking at a prepay card, then you will have to load that with cash, in which case I would assume your expenses will be relatively small. Therefore can't you manage it with a debit card. At least you wont be paying the prepay fees.
You will need to ask your employer how often they are going to pay you back your expenses, is it that you claim as soon as you have them or is it monthly, then you can work out your cash flow.0
