Seller refusing to fix problems, shall we ask for a reduction?

Are you a FTB? It does sound like it - buying is different to renting. You get the place as it is, there could be lots of other hidden issues around that you don't know about, but you have to accept that risk.
I wouldn't put the whole thing at risk over a shower, and certainly not for a boiler service. You can't force the vendor to do anything, you can say 'I must have re-imbursement for the shower', and they can say 'no'. What do you do then? Are you really willing to walk away?
The boiler service is totally your own call. It's not required under any law, and it's not for you to force them to do something they don't want to.0 -

I'm actually not a ftb, I've just never had a vendor promise to fix something and then a few weeks later decide they're simply not going to bother. We put the offer in with the shower being fixed/replaced as part of the deal. If we'd been told they were going to leave it in the state of disrepair we would have adjusted out offer accordingly.0 -

It may not be a couple of hundred quid if the boiler doesn't work it may be a couple of thousand, plus your question can be directed at the vendor as well. The vendor in this case made is going back on their word that the shower would be fixed, would you trust their word that the boiler works.
If there has been a leak in the bathroom I would want to inspect the area involved, if this means taking off a bath panel so you can view the plumbing so be it. I always take a torch step ladder and some tools in the car when viewing any property. If an EA won't let me look in a loft or a cellar then I walk away.0 -

I would threaten to pull out of the deal, it is a buyers market at the moment, if the seller cannot be bothered, then why should you?0
