Changing holiday

Hello - need some advice - will contact Travel agent over the weekend, but would like to hear from anyone that has done it.
Background - we have booked and paid 60% of a holiday to the Dom Rep for Jun next year, two weeks ago due to circumstances, my step son came to live with us, we have managed to get him into school, then it dawned on us about our holiday - it is in term time.
We can't afford to take him with us - (Carribean) but we could afford to change the holiday to cover half term and him missing one week of school (if the school allow it) to a med holiday - do you think that Thomas Cook would allow this.

You will have to cancel original holiday and book a new one. How much you will get back will depend on the T&Cs of the holiday. This far in advance it should not be too high a percentage.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

spiro, not quite true.
i presume that you have booked a thomas cook package through a thomas cook shop. in that case, you will be able to amend the current passengers on the old booking onto a new booking of your choice, providing it is still with the same tour operator (ie Thomas Cook). Hoever what usually happens is that they may charge you an admin fee for each and every element that you change (ie 1 admin fee if the date changes, 1 admin fee if the destination changes, 1 admin fee if the duration changes etc etc etc), so it might work out quite expensive. if that is the case, and the admin fee's work out more than the deposit you have paid for the current holiday (not the 60% you have paid, just the tour operators deposit), it might then be cheaper then to just cancel the holiday at loss of deposit and rebook a new holiday from scratch.I used to be a Travel Agent Used to be a travel agent for 23 Years, but now out of the industry. Dave is correct you can ammend but they may charge you to do so, it must travel within the same season too

yes delwyn, forgot about that bit, season changes are normally not allowed.
on the other side, without digging too deep, is it certain that your step son will still be living with you at the time of the holiday? Not prying or anything, however if there is any uncertainty as to where he will be next year, there might still be a chance you can still have the holiday if there will only then be the 2 of you.I used to be a Travel Agent Used to be a travel agent for 23 Years, but now out of the industry. Well now theres a question???, at the moment he's staying for good, and we have no family that live locally to look after him if we go without him - and to be honest I would feel guilty leaving him at home, his mum did that last year and sent him and his sister (stepdaughter) to us for 3 weeks (in term time) whilst she and her husband and their daughter together went away to Kenya.
Have spoken to TC, and yes we can ammend for £70pp for us to change hotel and date as long as its with a Thomas Cook company and then £35 to add stepson and would have to add step daughter as we won't take one with out the other, would be cheaper than cancelling, but would only be self catering compared to the all inclusive we were going to do.
The trials of step parenting I suppose - lol0
