    Debt-free and Proud!
    edited 15 December 2010 at 10:22AM
£7 was paid into my account from Quidco yesterday, so I've transferred that over to the Maternity leave e-saver.
  • A little change of plan... I've paid the £7 off the credit card instead of putting it in the maternity leave account. Unfortunately, due to a couple of unavoidable hotel stays, baby essentials and us not having the cash to pay for some other essentials, the credit card balance is looking nasty again - it's currently at £1002.25 and will be going up by £30 more or so by the end of the week. I'm annoyed by it, but not concerned to the point of not sleeping like I used to be about our CC debt, as I know it's not through frivolous spending and we'll pay it off again as soon as we can. I've decided to put it back into my signature though and record progress of 'chipping away' at it like before and then it will soon be paid off. Once this week's over with, no more should have to go on there at all.

So, let's start with £7 off the card...
  • i have found lately that i have had to put a couple of things on my credit card as you can see from my sig!!
like you said keep "chipping" away at it and you will start to see it creep back down. :)
    Total debt- 2982.00 Now- £2890.00
  • I was relieved to hear the scan was fine and the baby is well :D.

I daren't say how much has gone on my CC in the last few weeks :o. I have the spending bug at the moment and Xmas seems to justify all expenses and treats!

Anyway, as you say, it is all in hand and there is no need to stress because the balance can be paid off.

Have you found that last Xmas gift? If you would like me to check my local M&S stores to see if they have the item you ordered, just let me know.

Not much happening in terms of money making. I had a book clearout and only one was suitable to sell. A few hours after listing it on Amazon it sold which was great. I cleared out some other stuff and found some small things to Ebay but couldn't be bothered to list them at the weekend :o. The MSs have slowed, partly because I didn't have the energy to do them and partly because there aren't many around as Xmas approaches. I keep thinking I have done my last one for the year and then another one pops up. I did a book shop today which I thought would be the last, but now doing a coffee shop at the weekend which someone else had cancelled. A nice premium fee for a quick job and I think that really will be my last.
Mortgage, draw down Sept 2014: £222,000

Glad the baby is ok. When are you due?
  • Glad I'm not the only one with the horrible CC bill this month! We start paying interest on it from next month, so today I shall be looking at transferring it to a 0% deal.

No, still haven't found the xmas gift Chocs, thanks so much for your kind offer, but we're going to the 'big City' near us this afternoon so should be able to find something suitable there. Thank you for your thoughtfulness though, it is much appreciated. x :A

Well done on the book sale Chocs, I haven't 'Amazon'ed' for ages, but always used to find those 'sold, dispatch now...' emails so exciting!
Ooh, a book shop mystery shop sounds brilliant, hubby and I love book shops and can spend hours in them. They have that lovely smell to them don't they.

Baby is due on 3rd Feb YB and it's coming round so fast! I wouldn't be surprised if he/she makes an early appearance though as the trace showed some small 'tightenings' or contractions which I have not been feeling. I have another scan on Christmas Eve and a consultant appointment so will ask him what they might mean.

Thankfully I've not put on too much weight and I seem to be carrying quite well as I'm tall, so I haven't had to buy any maternity tops, just jeans. Although it's quite embarrassing to say that most of my normal tops still fit me with a big bump - just goes to show the state of my pre-pregnancy wardrobe eh?! :o

I have a half day at work today as we're off to the theatre this afternoon. Hubby was bought tickets for a show for his birthday and I was kindly bought one too, so we have been looking forward to it. It's an hour's train ride away which will be a nice change from diriving - hubby has already bought the train tickets which prove much cheaper than driving there and parking the car. Whilst we are there, we are using our clubcard pizza express vouchers to have a free meal before the show and hopefully pick up the last two Christmas gifts from the shops.

    Have a good day all

could you pm me your address please. I won a competition the other week so have something I cannot use, but you can, so I'll pass it on :)
  • Thank you so much YB, as I've said to you on PM, the generosity and kindness of people on these forums never ceases to amaze me. It really is so kind of you.:A
  • Well, after two days of being snowed in, we've finally been able to get the car out today and stock up on some much needed fruit, veg and meat etc. We walked to our local corner shop and got a few bits yesterday but the prices were astronomical! The money spent on groceries today (£40 ish) will come out of Dec/Jan's budget as we get paid tomorrow.

Hubby has donated £20 to the sealed pot tonight after an event he had budgeted £20 for was put on for free. :) I doubt there'll be many other purple notes, or notes at all, going into the pot over the next year so it'll boost the total up nicely!

As we haven't been able to get the car out, we haven't needed to top up with petrol this week so the bank account is looking ok. We still have £105 in there and the wages will go in tomorrow so that's really positive. :)

Think that's all on the update front for now, I hope everyone is keeping warm and safe in this horrible freezing weather.

  • I just checked my bank account and it seems I've been paid already, so I've transferred £500 to the maternity leave account plus the odd 25p floating in the main account and £150 to the tax and insurance account - £50 which was 'borrowed' from there earlier in the month and the usual £100 payment. There's £400 in that account now and £2406.45 in the maternity leave one. :)

I haven't made a payment to the credit card yet, I'll work out the budget for the month tomorrow when I have all the figures in front of me and see how much I can afford to pay off. It always makes me nervous, being paid early in December, and I don't want to overstretch our budget.
