HSBC issue (help required)

Hi,
On friday 15th october i paid in a cheque for £2500, the money is coming out of anglo irish bank,
Despite the fact that the money has gone into my account it has still not been updated onto my available balance.

It has been 1 week today and not only have i not been able to withdraw any of the money but my internet banking for hsbc has been locked for 3 days, everytime i try to log on i am told to contact a number and quote reference code HK3.

So i contacted them and they said i could be waiting for upto 2 weeks and that because the cheque is being processed i can't log onto internet banking until it has cleared.
Does this sound unusual or do these things happen reguraly.

I have had phone calls from the fraud department team just to make sure nobody is messing with my account because i keep attempting to deposit money and it keeps failing, i mean that is the only real way of checking if the cheque has cleared seeing as i lost my card recently and i can't get onto internet banking!

any help would be fine
thanks

  • Telephone Banking ? Should be able to get your balance on that and any items waiting to clear with a date when that cheque will clear

Is it drawn in sterling from a UK based account?
  • Check has been reported fraudulant, what a joke, i knew that losing my card and pin would cause this sort of havoc.
I'm sick of trying to check my account and getting stupid messages about incorrect details, im gonna ring the bank and give'em what for
    mf's.

I notice you haven't answered who it was from, what it was for and where it came from.

If the cheque is fraudulent HSBC have done nothing wrong in blocking your account. After all, as far as they are concerned at the moment all they know is that you've paid in a cheque that's fraudulent, and could therefore be part of a fraud attempt.

  • Apparantely someone has tried to put a cheque into my account from some irish guys bank account, bank told me to come into the nearest branch with photo ID, hopefully they can unblock my account and give me a new card!
  • in the original post you said that you put the cheque into your account and now you claim it was someone else.

heres hoping hsbc don't spot the inconsistencies in your story!

First you paid a cheque into your account. - Then you pooh-pooh the suggestion of fraud.
Now you agree, the cheque is fraudulent, but someone else did put it into your account.

    What is it?

I think your bank (quite rightly), will have to ask a lot of questions.
