Hi

I am a complete benefits novice so any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

  • No, you will not be eligible for Income Based JSA because your partner earns above the threshold. You will receive contributions JSA for a total of 26 weeks, after which you would not qualify for income based JSA unless your partners earnings dropped significantly.

You can double check your benefit entitlements on the Turn2us online benefit calculator.

To find out about the mortgage interest schemes run by the govt, a summary is provided on the Shelter website aimed at home owners struggling with their mortgages.
  • Are you claiming ctc & wtc?

What is the threshold for IB JSA after we pay the bills we are only left with £200 for the month.

Any earnings threshold is immaterial. It is a condition of entitlement to JSA(ib) that a claimants partner works fewer than 24 hours per week. The condition of entitlement is failed.

So if hours dropped to 23 per week we would qualify ??

    this system is mental

maybe, but that is when the value of earning would be taken into account and it's likely any entitlement would be nil
