Do you use too much washing powder than necessary?

Whichever is on offer at the time
Currently using a Persil Liquid (54 washes) that was on offer at half price a few weeks ago. I only use half the recommended dose which equates to 108 washes)!!! :T
I do like powder, it has to be said. Fairy is my absolute favourite and I buy a few of the big boxes when it's on offer - works out at £9/90 washes, obviously I get more when reducing the dose :T0 -
I prefer the powder as the tabs seem too concentrated for my liking ,even though I only used half of ONE tab for a full load...........I had to switch back to powder as like your machine - mine uses a lot less water per load.
I use a bit less than a third of the scoop provided - and always had good results. btw I always use Aldis Biological - but their Non Bio is good - I have sensitive skin and have never had a prob with either powder - but most of the big name brands bring me out in a rash - Too much perfume and filler in them i think!0 -
I use ecoballs practically all the time. I find they get the clothes just as clean without the perfume smell of the detergents. I have to be very careful what detergent is used in my washing machine. My daughter gets very sore if I use normal washing detergent to wash her underwear. If I do use washing powder in the machine I have to do a couple of extra rinses before I wash her clothes, to clear the soap residue first.
I have gone back to washing my sons shirts at 40' though because I had a problem with the sweaty smell lingering.0 -
If I'm using tablets then I only put one in the drawer, I've never used two. If its powder, (Asda's basic one is better than Tesco's btw IMO) then I use "some"
and if its liquid I use a capful.
I stopped using fabric conditioner and kitchen roll as well, for that matter, years ago.0 -
We used to use tablets about 3 years ago and started only using one after i just randomly decided one day that 2 was too many.
However about 6 months ago we switched to powder and were using half the recommended amount and washing powder costs us about £4 every 6 months LOL and then i read on here that for lightly soiled clothes or small loads 1 tbsp is sufficient so now im doing that!
unless im washing dog bedding or gardening clothes when ill use 2.
My clothes are clean and fresh and it makes no difference. Hang them on the line and they smell nice.
Its one of my biggest savings i think.

I buy gel but only on offer, my last purchase of 8 large bottles large size 28 washes cost £3.50 instead of £8 I use smaller measures for smaller loads, towels etc and I will add soda crystals to towels if needs be. I sometimes use the ariel stain remover but rarely and I only buy it on offer. I can't use powder or tablets as the smell is to strong and I feel it leaves residue in the clothes - I have go a big box of fairy non-bio under the stairs for when the baby comes but I will just use a bit.
I think the gel enables me to do cooler washes too so saves on energy

id use half a tablet lol, i buy powder and i use 1 tbsp measurment per load of washing and i get the same results, try it if it doesnt work then stick to using the one.
i bought a huge box of powder in feb for £8 ariel actilift for 50 washes well at a tbsp per wash i think i will still have it next jan lol
ive also got a bag of tesco's own bio powder which was 3.5 kg i think for £1.70 ish sorry cant remember exactly??? well thats being used for whites and the ariel for darks, i also use a quater of fabric softner topped up with water in the draw, as the draw used to get clogged up and now it seemes to be getting down to the drum fine.
for sweaty or smelly clothes it is put on a normal wash with vinegar in the fabric softner draw and this seems to do the trick if not i mix bicarb and vinegar together and paste it on the affected area and then wash normaly.
once the clothes have been dried you cant smell the vinegar xxxTrying to make big cut backs!!!
