Where in Italy?!

I'm planning on going to Italy next year with my friend (both early 20's). Have no idea which part though :S would i be better off going to a travel agent or is it cheAper to book the flights + hotels myself?

We want somewhere near a nice beach, and we won't have a car.

Maybe Lido di Jesolo, there are beaches there. Are you intending to see any of the cities/culture or more into a simple beach holiday? Venice is doable as a day trip from Jesolo.

Where in the UK can you fly from?
Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.
  • And if it's a beach, there are better and cheaper places to sunbathe.
  • Well we decided on Italy because we were in Spain earlier this year and we've both been to France many times and we like the food (ive been before as a child to Lake Garda). We can fly from any london airport or bournemouth/bristol/southampton.

I don't want to go to a big city and i just think its nice to be around the sea but we wouldnt actually spend anytime on the beach really.

I would deffinately recommend Rimini, Easyjet fly there direct I think, it's lively seaside town, nice beaches, restaurants, promenade.. Very pretty.
    Best wins ever:
2012: Holiday to LA for 2 adults +2 kids for 4 days
    2013: £2 000 Virgin Holiday Voucher!
2014: $1000 spending money for hols
2015: 8 night holiday to Thailand
  • Lido de Jesolo is a good idea

Fly to Pisa, and stay at Viareggio - nice beach resort, with a long pedestrian promenade (and delicious ice cream!)

Fly to Nice and train to Sanremo on the Italian Riviera.
Not as much beach, but plenty to do, and train connections all along the coast from France to Genoa and beyond.

    Look at

    for train information.

I'll tell you what my italian husband thinks of Rimini: Rimini in Italy = Blackpool in UK.

I would go to the west side. We have been this summer to Cinque Terre. Very pretty, but very expensive! Have a look at Liguria region, we have been there couple of times camping, and it was lovely. We have stayed on both sides of Genova (east and west), and I liked them both.

If you want a smaller place - we stayed at Montecatini Terme, Tuscany - a lovely elegant old town with a vernicular up into the mountains and parks with thermal spas everywhere. Real elegance :) Plus little markets and easy transport by train or get a trip to the seaside. And easy travelling to all the must do places.

Alternatively, Sorrento - plenty of places to go and its by the sea?
  • How about the Italian island of Sardinia? Great beaches and food. Plus Ryanair fly to Alghero which is a great town with a lovely beach.
  • Thanks for the suggestions, I am going to have a look into these places :)
