It has to be said that many in the broking community are loath to recommend a mortgage with the Woolwich.`
This is due to the fact that their service was absolutely AWFUL ! and if you wanted a fairly quick offer then forget it. It's no good a broker recommending a great mortgage if he knows that the lender will lose the application, deny all knowledge of an application and take three months to get it to offer. With client expectations to manage, the first in the firing line and getting all the blame will be the broker when infact it is the lender at fault. A lot of brokers could do without the hassle and would therefore rather walk over hot coals than recommend a Woolwich loan.
The problem is that the Woolwich are really trying to get their act together and, of late, I find them OK to deal with, but it will take quite a lot of convincing on their part to repair the damage and enhance their reputation to a level where brokers have confidence in recommending them again. Once bitten and all that.
I am glad that most on this thread have had nothing but good experiences so far. Lets hope it continues.0 -
We're waiting for an answer on a Woolwich mortgage too - but it was applied for via a broker. Wonder if they get prioritised???!!!! :j
We're also hoping to be moved in before Christmas...! No chain0 -

They apparently will have a new software package to submit business on, for brokers - due to start December/January I was told.
I have to speak as I find, and the last cases I have submitted have been very quick.
Submitted one on Thursday, and offer letter due out on Monday - this was a re-mortgage at a relatively low LTV, but in the past it may have taken them 3 weeks to get to this position. I have a good contact at Woolwich who always pulls out the stops when asked

Woolwich have a new system for low loan to value remortgage cases that has already been rolled out. Offer can be done the same day for good score cases that are submitted complete. Purchase offers are generally within 10 days of complete application being submitted at the moment. I called this morning for an update and they told me they have a hige backlog of mail, so info I sent in hasn't been opened. I guess I just need to be patient. Hope everyone elses application is going well.0

Applied today for the Woolwich 4.98% 10yr fixed, insisted that the broker used the online system for speed. House builders are pushing for 28 day exchange, and I want to ensure it gets going before they possibly up the rate. Had to get the wife's signature, which went in the post so hopefully they'll get the valuation done quickly & offer soon.0

I shouldn't tempt fate, but it all seems to be going quite smoothly. The survey was done on the 20th Oct and we are exchanging (hopefully) tomorrow morning. We renegotiated the price as a result of the survey and were worrying that we would need to get a new offer letter from the Woolwich (which would have delayed things by a couple of weeks) but we phoned them and it's all fine.3-6 Month Emergency Fund #14: £9000 / £10,0000
