I went to local DVLA last week to hand in my form and details etc. The guy said I would have letter within 7 working days to confirm I can change plates. Its now 8 working days, heard nothing and the £80 cheque hasnt come out of my bank yet. Should i be worried? Ive tried calling but its constantly engaged.

Never had a problem with several changes over past 7 years. I am lucky perhaps and can go down to the local DVLA office (and queue!!), but at least then they issue a receipt and it goes into the system avoiding the post. Just watch out if you are selling the car that previously had a personalised reg. as the change doesn't show up if the buyer does an HPI check. Had a buyer walk away 4 years ago even though I had the proof from the DVLA that the reg had been retained by me and the original reg had been put back on the car.

  • The DVLA are a law unto themselves i am afraid to say, most of the time these things are straight forward, i would keep trying to ring them, they have been known to loose the paperwork,i posted on another thread that my sister sent them paperwork to say a car had been scrapped, they then sent her a fine for having no road tax!!!

  • i used to go through this tortuous experience every three years but found it was easier to change your name by deed poll.
    hope this helps
