gas and electricity doorstep callers

gas and electricity doorstep callers, I thought they were banned?

Just had someone from Scottish power telling me if I was with Hydro Electric I was getting ripped off.

Or are they just banned in England?

Not banned unfortunately although they shouldnt call if you have a no cold caller sign

    They should be banned though

Consumer Focus and TSI say energy companies should have strict penalties for any sales-staff who break the commitment on cold callers from now on.

If consumers still receive cold calls at their door from energy suppliers despite clearly displaying a sign requesting not to do so, they should complain directly to the energy firm in question and contact Consumer Direct on 08454 040506.

When Scottish Power knock I tell them I used to work for Scottish Power Retail, who were sold off to Powerhouse then they liquidated as soon as the TUPE protection expired, so will never deal with the lying shower..... ever again.

Had one last week, can't remember the company, but it was lies from the moment he opened his mouth. Started off saying that his company had taken over the gas network from transco, so they could offer the gas cheaper than anyone else as everyone else had to buy the gas from them.

Me "Interesting, so you say its cheaper to buy it from the original supplier?"
    Him "Of course"
Me "So companies that buy it in bulk at guarranteed prices don't get it at fixed rates which can lead to it being sold cheaper than the current cost?ie Futures?"
Him "No, we are always the cheapest rate, everyone else adds their cut onto it "
Me " So its best to buy it straight from the first company?"
    Him" Yes"
Me "I work for Total, the rig I am on supplies 20% of the daily gas useage in the UK"
    Him "Never heard of them"
    Cue my laughter.

As Antispam correctly pointed out, all you need is to stick a "No cold Callers!" sign up, then you are covered ;).

I had one from British Gas yesterday, I didn't hear him knock and it was only by chance that I was going out to the bin, with my yorkie close on my heels, my dog took one look at him, chased him off my front garden and made him drop his fancy electronic gadget he was carrying, naughty dog :o As he ran down the path I told him I didn't want British Gas, I think he was quite relieved.

I had a Southern Electirc sales rep tell my mum he was reading the meter and needed her to sign to confirm this. Luckily I was there at the time and when I realised what he was doing I took his whole case and ripped up every bit of paper in it, then launched him out the door. Hopefully I not only saved my mum from being conned but anyone else he had conned that day LOL
