Wireless headset for telephone

Hi
I need to buy a wireless headset for work - it will be used for approx 8 hours per day. Does anyone use a set up like this? If so, what works for you?
I've been checking websites and Plantronics looks like the best bet but I'm getting confused with some of the technical issues about the interaction of the headset, handset lifter (are these always needed?) and the phone. SupraPlus wirelss binaural looks like the type of headset I should get, but what works best with these?
The Plantronics compatability guide is a let down as it tells me that there is a product matching my requirements but doesn't show me what it is! Grrrr!
What I need it to do is the following:-
Have good wireless range that would be effective in a stanard sized house.
Have no delay (or less than 1 second) between my picking up the call on the headset and it being connected to me.
Have quick call capability
Be a binaural headset.
Have volume control on the headset
Mute on the headset would be a valuable plus, but I could live without it if I had to.
I'm assuming I would need to have DECT set-up, does that rule out having a wireless handset on the phone?
I know this is going to cost me a lot, the best quality possible is vital, if the setup fails in any one of my core requirements the whole thing would be a waste of money.
Any recommendations for proven phone/headset/lifter combinations gratefully received.
Many thanks
