I've signed up for it. I didn't realise Martin had recommended it though. The thing that appealed most is you can link the course towards a Certificate in Business Studies, and even as far as a Degree in Business if you'd like. Looks useful, now I just need the motivation...

Most on benefits with the low income can get full fees paid and a grant (£250 IIRC) to help with other costs of doing a degree, as long as you haven't already got a degree. They usually offer a discount on PCs I believe this is through Dell but not 100% sure.
One day I might be more organised...........

they give you a grant of £250 and if a pc is required for your course then they will give you a further £250 towards a pc pretty good i think...........
  • So hold on.

Im currently suffering from Depression and on IS (As i cant claim Incapacity)...but receiving IS for Incapacity (Hope that makes sense)

I get both IS and Council Tax Benefits.

So its possible to do a course over the OU, and get a grant towards a new PC? (aka Learning Costs, as it would be a Computer related course)

I was doing a HND at college, before i had to quit half way through the 2nd year (due to said depression) and although i have HND units, i do not hold the full certificate.

Does this in anyway effect your benefits? And what about exams? I remember a former work colleague of mine having to travel all the way from Newcastle down to Birmingham just to do a exam. (eep!)

Any advice on this would be great, as doing something constructive is better than sitting here doing nothing :)

Edit: Oops! just realised its for one perticular course lol. Is it possible to do any other courses? I mean this would still be worthwhile doing though...

I would love to do this course but cannot afford it  as I am on IB. I am not entiteled to any help with course fees as I am not on any means tested benefit.

Oh well guess I will have to just put it off for another year.

Doelani might be worth applying as they also do a means tested support. You might fall into the criteria for that if you're not on means tested benefits. Worst they can say is no.

The courses I was on about are degree courses, usually the best thing is to call them and ask if you would be eligable.
