Nationwide legal services?

I have recently applied for a new mortgage in principle with nationwide after the last one with brittania expired. They asked if we wanted legal services. I don't remember Britannia asking this and to be honest I'm not entirely sure what it is?
I assume it's conveyancing so you don't need to instruct a solicitor so I said yes thinking this migt speed things along a bit But I'm just a bit unsure of what I've actually agreed to!? I assume I can change it on the full application but could someone just clarify what legal services are?
Thanks very much
Simon.

MY opinion is.........they will allocate you to a firm on their panel of law firms who do their conveyancing (firms who paid Nationwide such a large amount of money to get on to the panel, who will then cut corners to make it pay and, well they won't care about you) - and that firm may or may not be 'solicitors'- who i bet 99% sure will be useless, slow and not care about you, as, well... guess what..... you aren't paying, so put up with it!
Your neighbour who may be moving home, will have selected their conveyancer personally, paid £500, and truely have a breeze of a time. OH well, they were cheap /free so grin and bear it.
Tesco will do the same, and C&G. Free or cheap conveyancing means CRAP. They go hand in hand.
Never pay less than £500 for either a sale or purchase, or the person doing the deal will cut corners on a deal which to you is soooo important. My posts are just my opinions and are not offered as legal advice - though I consider them darn fine opinions none the less.:cool2:
My bad spelling...well I rush type these opinions on my own time, so sorry, but they are free.:o0 -
Ok thanks for that. I assumed we would still have to pay a fee for it?
I think I'll get someone else to do it.0 -
I got a legal quote from Nationwide and it was for more than £1000. I ended up paying £660 all in with the local firm.0
