Hi,
When my toilet cistern starts to refill, there is quite a noise coming from the water pipes and it seems to be getting louder. Its never done it before and toilet has been in some years.
Does anyone know what is causing this and how do I stop it?
Thanks

Its called " Waterhammer " caused by a faulty ball valve that fills the cistern.
Turn off water at your stop valve , de-pressurise your pipes by turning on a cold tap, replace ball valve seal or fit new ball valve.0 -
Stopcock , stopcock ,stopcock.
STOPCOCK!
B/v needs a new diaphragm washer.

I have a pretty new Duravit toilet and when it refills it suddenly makes quite a loud sort of vibrating noise, just for a few seconds. Do I sound like a new Diaphragm washer as well, whatever that is. It's only been installed since March.0

Sorry,
have no idea what the ball valve is or a diaphragm washer
Can you give me a few more details?
Thanks0 -

which is a side entry ball valve (ball not shown and many are brass rather than plastic).
or something like this:
which is a side entry torbeck valve
or this:
which is a side entry fluidmaster.
The latter two can also be bottom entry.
In all three cases the diaphragm is behind the large knurled nut that the float arm operates on to restrict the flow of water as the float rises and finally shut it off once the float reaches the water level that has been set.

"noise in pipes when cistern refills"
Are you sure the noise isn't coming from the cistern? sometimes the flimsy plastic filler splits at the outlet, the spray from it can be noisy!
Lift off the lid and check.0
