Internet constantly disconnecting!

My tiscali broadband has started disconnecting itself every three or four minutes.
I have no idea what's started this, but my antivirus has just expired and I've not renewed it yet. Could the two be connected?
It's set to disconnect itself after 24 hours inactivity.
It's driving me bats! Any insights?

have you checked all the phone line connections (especially if you have extensions etc) i had this problem and kept phoning the helpline at great cost - all turned out ok - dodgy extension phone lead.
Very basic idea i know but i'm sure the techie guys will help you with the real stuff
    good luck

I had this problem, also with tiscali. I got a new modem from them and all seems ok now.Well apart from a crackling phone lline.
As for the antivirus you need something so until you renew why not download a free antivirus prog. AVG i think is a good one.

Have you just started using Tiscali for internet, and are you on the 8mb service?

If so, disconnections are commonplace, independant of ISP when starting to use MAX ADSL 8MB.

There can be many causes to frequent disconnects.
Faulty extension leads, filters, phone equipment and of course modem / router to name but a few.

I have a similar problem and have isolated it to a dodgy phone line, it goes down when it rains a lot so i suspect a BT seal on the cable. Convincing them of it will be the hard part.
  • My Talktalk b/b connection disappeared 2 weeks ago after free antivirus expired and I could not renew it due to TT screen problem.

Modems etc connecting successfully and also pc showing that b/b is connected but cannot view any web pages: "This page is not displayed".

After several calls/emails to TT c/service, now they say that maybe the antivirus is running 'silently' and so preventing internet connection - so they will send me a disc to remove Fsecure. Not sure about this. Any suggestions? I am a pc novice. (ping tests etc already carried out)

    Thanks in anticipation

Moob, all antivirus, antispy etc removed via control panel add/remove. After expiry on 29/9 Fsecure is not displayed - so cannot remove via control panel.

    Chris, try re registering some dlls;

    1. Click Start, click Run, type regsvr32 urlmon.dll in the Open box, and then click OK.
    2. Click OK when you receive the following message:
    DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll succeeded
    3. Repeat steps 1 and step 2 for the rest of the DLL files by replacing the regsvr32 urlmon.dll command in the Open box with the following commands:
    • regsvr32 actxprxy.dll
    • regsvr32 shdocvw.dll
    • regsvr32 mshtml.dll
    • regsvr32 browseui.dll
    • regsvr32 jscript.dll
    • regsvr32 vbscript.dll
    • regsvr32 oleaut32.dll

It sounds to me like a browser problem since your PC is reporting connection to BB.

  • If I am on line, BB, and someone switches the bathroom light on (other end of the house), the connection breaks!

Is that a dodgy bathroom switch?
