Put £360 into Santander and only £300 went in

Can anyone please advise before I go to the bank about this.

I put £360 into a friends account - I gave the bank the account number, they asked me to give them the name of the holder which I did and was correct.

They then said the money was now in their account.

My friend says the money isn't in his account and I also noticed that the receipt for depositing the funds is for £300 and not £360. I definitely did hand over £360 to the teller,

So is the £300 in your friends account???

If so, then you really should have checked the receipt when the teller handed the money to you. That was the time to bring it to their attention.

You could always give the branch a call to see if anyone was £60 over that day. If not, you're probably up a certain creek without a certain instrument.

Give the branch a call. The likelihood is one of the cashiers doesn't balance by £60.

If they don't have an imbalance, you're unlikely to see that £60 again.

    But you should report it.
  • Did you get a reciept? If so, double check the account number on the top with your friend. If it doesn't match, take teh slip back into the branch and ask their Assistant Manager or Manager to go find the corresponding slip from that days transactions.

They should be able to rectify it from there. Hope that helps :)

If it was someone else's account it's unlikely they'd be given a receipt.

Please read the original post before you reply! He said right from the start that he was given a receipt ...

Yes, and 'if so' means that he may or may not have been given a receipt ... when he clearly was as he said in his original post.
