Cheapest way to use virgin media landline diverted to a mobile.

Dear All,

I have searched and searched the web for a solution to this problem but im having real trouble coming up with a solution.

We run a small business from home and have a second line installed into our house. As the business has developed we are spending more and more time out on the road and using the call divert function almost all the time. Our bills have gone from £50 per month to £200 per month!!! Gutted doesn't describe it...

The way it works is we have an 0845 number which diverts to the landline in the house(this is free) then it diverts using the virgin media to our mobile.

Is anyone aware of a solution to reduce this cost, I spoke with virgin media who advised that they to a calls to anywhere minutes plan like you get on mobiles so calls to mobiles would be included but.. it doesn't work with call divert????

Please please help, I really hope someone out there has a solution.:o

Sincere thanks to anyone who is able to provide assistance.

Best wishes,

Stan

  • You're going to have to pay someone for the mobile redirect at some stage. At the moment that's Virgin Media.

Can the supplier of the 0845 number simply redirect that to your mobile? Is that cheaper than VM's charges?

Or, sign up for a VOIP solution like Sipgate.co.uk and use the control panel to redirect the number (@9.9ppm I think) or - and this is presuming - and you'd want to check this - can port the 0845 number to them - have the redirect done from there. There are other solutions, I think I used to use one called something like Reality Telecom.

Or, if the calls tend to be "sales lead" type calls, sign up with a good "receptionist" service who can answer on your behalf and grab the information and email it to you so that while that's going on, you can maximise your time working. Do choose carefully, as if you just want "He's out of the office, can I take a message" pricing can be cheap to extortionate, if on the other hand you need someone with a bit more knowledge to be able to field the call in a more detailed way then see what level of service is offered.

Finally, I think O2 Business have some kind of "inbound landline to mobile" offering on their contracts which might be worth looking at; remember that the cost to the customer of calling 0845 isn't necessarily cheaper than calling a normal national STD number.
  • Thanks very much for the replies! :j

I am now looking into the idea of a fixed cellular terminal though when a website doesn't advertise a price it always worries me. i.e - you will save a fortune if you spend ££££

I am trying to research how these fixed cellular terminals work and if just anyone of them on the market will do:)

Thanks again, any other input would be welcomed.

    Best wishes,

    Stan
